Sharing and Showcasing Student Work

Sharing and Showcasing Student Work

Although sharing values and establishing community guidelines may help youth feel more comfortable in the physical space of the classroom, students may still be intimidated to share their academic work. Creating an environment where they feel comfortable talking about their work and processes can help them develop communication skills needed to advocate for themselves in STEM education and careers.

    • Create norms around sharing
Developing norms around sharing work should be a process that includes the youth you are working with. Here are examples of norms for presenting or sharing:

      • Allow the presenter to share their work without interruptions.
      • When giving feedback, give one piece of warm feedback (something they did well) and one piece of cool feedback (something they can improve).
      • Save questions until the end.
      • Designate a notetaker, so that the presenter can fully engage the audience.

  • Cultivate an environment of sharing
As a teacher or facilitator, you can help create an environment that encourages students to share.
    • Designate time to share works in progress.
    • Work on your own projects, and share with students.
    • Designate a visible space in the room to share student work.
